Balance and business: Does it really exist?

Moments of Tranquility
with Dani Sheridan

As a business owner and a mum to an 11-year-old daughter, I’m often asked how I balance it all. The honest answer? I don’t think I always do.

Taking over Tranquillo and stepping into the world of business ownership has been one of the most exciting, challenging and rewarding experiences of my life. I’ve learned quickly that running a business rarely looks as polished behind the scenes as it might appear from the outside.

Some weeks, the business needs more of me. Other weeks, my daughter does. Sometimes I feel like I’m doing everything well, and other times I’m simply trying to keep all the balls in the air.

Being a mum while building a business has also made me think about what I’m showing my daughter. I hope she sees that women can be ambitious, take risks and create something they’re proud of — but also that success doesn’t mean doing everything perfectly.

I’m learning that balance isn’t about giving everything equal time. It’s about recognising what needs you most in that moment and letting go of the guilt when something else has to wait.

Self-care doesn’t always mean a spa day. Sometimes it’s a walk, asking for help, saying no, or simply taking an hour for yourself without feeling guilty.

Perhaps balance isn’t something we achieve. Maybe it’s something we continually adjust as life changes.

And for now, I’m learning to embrace the juggle.
