Cleaning up Karangahake

Milleny De Souza from Brazil helps prune the trees back.

Bay Learning students joined the Department of Conservation to help them tidy up some of the Karangahake Gorge track on Wednesday morning, as part of Volunteer Wednesday.

Bay Learning Academy managing director Liz Signal says it's been such a success because the students love going out in the bush.

'We go out for hikes so this time I thought it would be nice to do it for DOC and give something back to the community.”

Brazilian student Sula Dital, 31, enjoyed spending her morning clearing the main track of Karangahake Gorge.

'This is a beautiful place. I think everybody did a great job together. I'm very happy to help. I want to do this volunteering again at the next volunteer day in November.”
