Dogs dare to be different

Dogs will be jumping through hoops this weekend at the Doggy Day Out.

Dogs will be darting about at their day out this weekend in a fundraising event organised by the recently established Pyes Pa/Tauriko Lions Branch Club.

Doggy Day Out will be taking place on Sunday, June 9 at Koikoi Reserve on Double Bay Road, The Lakes.

Event Organiser Delwyn Dyson says all funds raised at the event will go back to the Pyes Pa/Tauriko Community.

The club invites all dog owners to bring their pets along to the event, encouraging them to use agility equipment provided by the Tauranga Dog Training Club.

The club will also bring some of its highly trained dogs along to the event and they will demonstrate how the equipment is used.

'It is just a fun community day more than anything and I think it's going to be quite a laugh trying to get people to do things that their dogs don't normally do,” says Delwyn.

Welcome Bay Lions Branch Club past president Suzanne Reid thinks that it is awesome to see members of the Pyes Pa / Tauriko Branch coming up with fresh ideas for fundraisers.

'They're an awesome bunch of locals who are trying to create some community spirit here in Tauriko.”

Doggy Day Out is the group's second major fundraising project. Its first project consisted of raising $24,000 through sponsorships in order to put in a large shade cloth over a local playground.

Registration and entry cost is $5 and registration opens at 10.30am.

Prizes will be awarded to top placing participants. Food and drink will be also available for purchase at the event.
