Fun, frocks & feel-good vibes

An array of outfits adorned last year’s event, with cyclists donning their best frocks (both males and females!) for the event.

Join in the fun and the spectacle at the second Waihi Beach Frocks on Bikes event on Sunday, February 7 – all you need is a frock, a bike, a drink bottle, sunblock and a helmet.

Organised by Waihi Beach Promotions and supported by Bikewise and MoreFM, this event is for all ages and only a minimum level of fitness is required. Entry is by gold coin donation.

'Men, and boys, don't be scared to show off your feminine side and join the ladies, and girls. All you need is a frock. You will miss out on all the hilarity, and the spot prizes, if you don't,” says organiser Christine Donehue.

'This year there will be prizes for team entries and one for every child. So get your mates together and start decorating your bikes and yourselves.”

After meeting at the Waihi Beach Hotel at 10am for registration, the cyclists will follow one of three routes, each with a tour leader.

The ‘easy rider' route around town passes through the bustling centre, with its boutique shopping, fresh produce and great cafes. The longer pelaton will travel to Bowentown. All routes lead back to the hotel for prize giving, at approximately 1pm.

"The emphasis will be on safe cycling and taking time out to explore. There will be lots of spot prizes and goodies from the French Shop, Ava Lee, Shipshape and the Secret Garden, the Flat White Cafe and Waihi Beach Hotel, for the best dressed bikes, riders and team and best child's decorated bike.

'So grab your frock, jump on your bike and enjoy a unique, fun, cycling outing at Waihi Beach, a popular destination for all outdoor adventures. The safest surf beach in the world, with nine kilometres of inviting sand and sea.”
