Te Puke’s Evergreen House – Whare Katoa was opened this month with a celebration service at Te Puke Baptist Church, followed by a blessing, opening and shared lunch.

The community housing development, which opened August on 24, features six modern, well-constructed units, and aims to address the growing need in the region for suitable housing for older people and those with chronic health conditions.

Evergreen House has received Lifemark 4 certification for all six units, ensuring accessibility and suitability for ageing in place.

This community housing development at 8 George St was spearheaded by the Jabez Initiative Charitable Company in partnership with the Te Puke Baptist Church, which is next door.

GJ Gardner Homes, led by Shane and Kirsty McConnell, has been instrumental in bringing the vision to life.

“Those that attended the opening brought a non-perishable pantry item and we were able to stock all pantries with at least 30 items – what a blessing,” said Jabez Initiative director Amy Cumming.
