The Tauranga Diwali Festival returns on Saturday, October 18, bringing a vibrant celebration of culture, community, and tradition to the Historic Village from 2pm-9pm.
This one-day event will feature seven hours of captivating performances from a diverse line-up of local, national, and international artists, said festival organiser Bela Dasi.
Attendees can expect an immersive cultural experience that highlights the essence of Diwali, one of the most significant festivals in India and among Hindu communities worldwide, Dasi said.

“Each year, this celebration is curated to be a unique and lasting experience. We’re excited to present a rich programme that includes soulful Kirtan music, devotional storytelling, chanting and mantra, alongside delicious vegetarian cuisine and beautifully crafted artisan goods.”
A standout feature of this year’s festival is a rare and thought-provoking Dance Drama, offering a fresh interpretation of traditional performance art, said Dasi.
“International performer Malini Taneja, visiting from the United States, will join a talented ensemble of artists to deliver a dynamic and inspiring stage performance.”

Diwali, known as the Festival of Lights, symbolises the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance, Dasi said.
The Tauranga Diwali Festival invites people of all backgrounds and beliefs to come together in a spirit of unity, celebration, and cultural appreciation.
“This is a unique opportunity for the wider community to experience the beauty and depth of Diwali in a welcoming and festive environment. Make sure you ask about their reuseable cup initiative.”
Tauranga Diwali Festival is on Saturday, October 18, from 2pm-9pm at the Historic Village, 17th Ave West, Tauranga City. Entry is via gold coin.
