Families, friends and grandparents alike are encouraged to enjoy a fun day out full of country traditions with their youngsters at the 2026 Katikati A&P Show on February 1 at the Uretara Domain.
“We want people to know that children aged 14 and under gain free entry into the show,” said Katikati A&P Show secretary Sheryl Smith.
“The committee presents the show and each year pays for a range of entertainment and activities to appeal youngsters – we want families to come along and enjoy it,” Smith said.
Free entertainment this year for children would include a puppet show, a kids’ lolly scramble, face painting, donkey rides, a vertical bungy, a rock climbing wall, an Animal Magic show with sheep by local animal trainer Bex Tasker, Train rides for under-fives and giant wooden games. A military vehicle display plus classic cars, hot rods and vintage tractors would also appeal to youngsters who love wheels.
Smith said the committee was very excited to bring back the traditional attraction of the dairy cattle competitions this year.

“These competitions, along with the equestrian events, the Home Industries displays and the Children’s Scarecrow Competition really give kids a taste of rural New Zealand that many don’t see these days.”
Other big drawcards would include wood chopping demonstrations, a mussel shucking event, and Katikati Wrestling Club’s Beach Wrestling event. “Then there is the music on offer – you’ve got a range of dancing and singing showcases – plus arts and crafts for sale.”
Smith said all the trade sites are now booked out and would showcase agricultural machinery, electric bikes, cars and scooters alongside local charity groups.
A variety of food vendors would cater to all tastes, Smith said.

Smith said the volunteer organising committee began work on the 2026 event straight after last year’s centenary show, which 4000 people attended.
“We want our 101st show to keep making a positive impact on the community by creating memorable experiences and strengthening communal ties.”
The 2026 Katikati A&P Show is Sunday, February 1, at the Uretara Domain. Gates open 9am. Entry costs adults $10 each, and Under-14s gain free entry.
