Vintage cars galore on Guy Fawkes

This Sunday is Guy Fawkes night and the coordinator of the ‘Annual Family Show Vintage & Classic Cars Swap Meet’ Bruce Tait, is also hoping the day will go off with a bang.

For some years now this event has been staged at the Bay of Plenty Vintage Car Club’s clubrooms venue in Cliff Rd Tauranga.

“The event has grown like topsy – and once again we’re expecting a good turnout from the motoring fraternity as well as the general public,” says Bruce.

There’ll be a good assembly of classic and vintage cars on display and the BOP Vintage Car Club is keen to hear from anyone who has an older car that they’d like to bring along.

“If you come along with an older car for display purposes, we’ll let you in for free,” says Bruce.

People can also look around the swap meet stalls, which always prove to be a popular hunting ground for those who are after not only old car parts, but on the search for something quirky and unusual.

“It’s always interesting seeing the smiles on people’s faces as they leave our Cliff Rd venue carrying all sorts of stuff that they probably weren’t expecting to own 30 minutes earlier,” says Bruce with a laugh.

“What with the Vintage Car Club also preserving older cars, I guess you can say that we promote recycling!”

The Annual Family Show is affordable entertainment and there’ll be plenty of refreshments on hand to suit the tastes of older and younger visitors.

Gates open to the public at 10am, those setting up stalls and bringing their vehicles ideally should be there by 7.30am. Admission on the day is just $5 per person or $15 per family.
